1975年雲門取材民間傳說，錘鍊出第一部傲視海內外的經典之作《白蛇傳》。
《白蛇傳》不僅是雲門結合中國戲曲與西方藝術極為成功的代表作，也是雲門首度出國公演的作品。1975年9月2日，雲門舞集應邀在新加坡國家劇院登台，首演《白蛇傳》。
1975年，雲門挾《白蛇傳》等在海外的聲譽回國，9月下旬起在台灣巡演，由於廣受觀眾歡迎，三十幾年來《白蛇傳》成為雲門的固定舞碼，屢次重演。
